Bless the Lord today.
Judges 5:2 When leaders lead in Israel, When the people willingly offer themselves, Bless the Lord!
When you know that God is the One who brought you through, it produces humility. We cannot take credit for what only God could do. Instead, we give Him our gratitude, our worship, and our testimony. This is exactly what Deborah and Barak did. After witnessing the mighty hand of God defeat Sisera and the Canaanite army, their immediate response was to bless the Lord.
That is why they sang in Judges 5:1-2, Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying: “When leaders lead in Israel, When the people willingly offer themselves, Bless the Lord!” Although Deborah acknowledged the leaders who led and the people who willingly offered themselves, she understood that the victory ultimately belonged to God. Their first response after victory was not self-congratulation but worship. They recognized God’s hand at work and immediately blessed the Lord. The Bible says they sang “on that day.” On the very day the victory was won, they lifted their voices in praise. They did not wait until they were rested.
Think about it. They had just come through a major battle. They were probably tired and physically exhausted. Yet before they did anything else, they stopped to acknowledge God and give Him the glory He deserved. Why is this important? Because gratitude that is delayed can easily be forgotten. How often do we cry out to God the moment trouble comes, yet delay sharing our testimony when the breakthrough arrives? We seek God immediately when we need help, but when He answers, we say, “I will thank Him later. Deborah and Barak refused to do that. The moment they saw God’s hand at work, their response was, ‘Bless the Lord!
