Generosity Is An Expression Of Love.

1 John 3: 16 – 17 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

“God loves a cheerful giver” is a statement taken from 2 Corinthians 9: 7. It speaks about God’s observation of a person’s heart when they give something. The greatest example of giving cheerfully and willingly is seen when Jesus was nailed to the cross. He did not try to escape or try to get someone else to take His place, but He willingly gave Himself to go through the suffering of crucifixion. We receive salvation because of Jesus’ sacrifice and in turn, we are now encouraged to have the same attitude. Although dying may not be the necessary step for all of us other than for martyrs, but the sacrifice that we are all called to do is to give from our own possession to those in need. Generosity is an expression of our love especially if we are confessing that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. We should not turn a blind eye when there are people who are in need. We don’t have to give everything to everyone and go into poverty but our heart must always be ready to provide whenever a need arises. Be generous and God will sustain you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to be generous and not hold back all that You have given me to use on earth. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

Hebrews 13: 16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
