When Effort Isn’t Enough.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure”.
Sometimes we think that the Christian life is all about trying harder and doing better. But the truth is, it’s God who is working in us, giving us both the desire and the strength to live for Him. Real success isn’t about our effort alone. It’s about walking with Jesus Christ. He said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5), and that’s something we all come to realize sooner or later. When we stay close to Him, our lives begin to grow in ways that truly matter.
This touches every part of life. Whether it’s serving in ministry, dealing with personal struggles, working toward our goals, or building a family, we can’t do it well on our own. Trying harder alone isn’t the answer. Staying connected to Him is. Because the truth is, effort without God eventually feels empty. You can achieve things, even good things, but still feel like something is missing. That’s why the Bible says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it” (Psalm 127:1).
Even the writer of Ecclesiastes saw this clearly. After all his achievements, he said it was like chasing the wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14). Without God, even success can feel meaningless. So maybe today is a good time to pause and ask yourself: Am I trying to do everything on my own, or am I walking with God? In the end, it’s not just about what we achieve, but who we walk with.
Prayer from Psalm 25:4-5 4Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
